RESEARCH FUNDING
Today, conquering any major health issue requires extensive research and time. However, to be able to conduct any research, funding is an absolute necessity. Ronald Peterson M.D, the chair of an advisory council to the National Alzheimer's Project, has claimed that to reach the goal of prevention and treatment by 2025 a minimum yearly federal funding of 2 billion dollars would be necessary. In 2015, major health issues comparable to AD such as Cancer and HIV/AIDS received 5.2 billion and 3 billion dollars in federal funding, respectively. However, as of May 2017, AD is only receiving 1.4 billion dollars in funding and that comes after a 400 million dollar increase.
SOLUTION
So what can be done to remedy the lack of federal funding for Alzheimer's? The most effective movements in history have always been from the bottom up. As the American public we need to make a clear statement to the men and women in congress. This statement should be one of complete support for funding Alzheimer's as necessary in order to succeed in the goal of preventing and treating Alzheimer's by 2025. It must be clear that we want All for Alzheimer's.
